Five of the seven groups awarded funding under a government scheme for projects on sexual minorities have no track record of LGBTQ-related work, prompting concern among veteran activists about their effectiveness.

Most have apparent pro-establishment ties, an HKFP investigation has found.They received between HK$30,000 and HK$75,000 under the annual Equal Opportunities (Sexual Orientation) Funding Scheme, run by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (CMAB).
Meanwhile, many LGBTQ NGOs that in past years had received funding were rejected.
